The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones is a captivating book by Alice Sebold. It is about a fourteen year old girl who watches over her friends, family, and killer from heaven. I chose this book because I saw the movie trailer and wanted to read it before I saw the movie. My mother had read the book and she said it was a beautiful, but sad story.
Susie Salmon was your typical fourteen year old girl who was just discovering love when her life was taken from her by a neighborhood man. From heaven she watches as her family and friends try to cope with her disappearance, as well as the man who killed her try to cover his tracks and hide her body. Susie’s sister and father try to unravel the mystery of her disappearance, as she learns about her murderers horrific past.
In this book I liked the drama, it was so sad and dramatic in the beginning, and the end of the book has such a beautiful conclusion that left me wanting more. I liked that everything was so detailed and Alice Sebold actually made you feel like you were watching a movie. The end of the book seemed to leave me a little bit hanging, but I guess that’s what made it such a great story. I didn’t like how the author jumped from one thing from the other a little too fast in some parts. Due to some graphic scenes in this book I would recommend it for 13-14 year olds. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good drama or mystery.
