Recently I finished a book called After The Moment by Garret Freyman-Weyr. This book was great and I could not put it down.
This book was mainly about a boy named Leigh and a girl named Maia. Maia has a secret, she is anorexic and she is a self mutilator. She cuts herself because her father is jail and she only sees him once a week at the most. Maia becomes friends with Leigh’s sister Millie. Leigh instantly finds an attraction to her. Maia then shares all of her secrets with her. Leigh then feels more attracted to her so, he breaks up with his previous girlfriend Astra. Maia and Leigh start to date.
In the middle of the book Maia goes to a party with a few boys and she gets drunk. She then as sex with a boy named Oliver who has his friend tape the whole thing. She tells Leigh and Leigh is furious. He gets a layer for Maia but he then gets in a fight with Oliver and he puts him in a coma. Oliver’s family agrees not to press charges if Maia does not press charges against Oliver for the video. She signs the contract and she goes home. She leaves to go to a private school so she can have a fresh start.
In the very end the setting is 6 years later and Maia and Leigh meet up by an accident. They say that they’re love for each other never died but they cannot be together. They exchange numbers and emails and they say goodbye. That is where the book ended.
Three things I liked about this book was that it was very real and not biased. Also that it was touching. Last the thing that I liked about this book was that it was hard to put down. I only disliked one thing about this was that the end was kind of hard to understand. I think the reading level for this book would be ten and up. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes books about anorexia.
