The Cage

I read an awesome book!!!! The name of my book is "The Cage" by Ruth Minsky Sender. It is mostly about a family that tries to survive through the hard times of the 1939's. No matter what happens or what is going on they always try to stay together. Thanks to their friends and family they survive! I chose this book because it was suggested by a great teacher who loves to read!!
This book has a lot of action in it! A "family" has to live through really hard times! Loosing a mother and having to keep a couple of the members in the family alive while trying to hide so you will not loose your life or have to go to labor camp is not easy! One of the main characters named Riva, has to face a lot of challenges! Her mother was taken away with a whole bunch of other Jewish people when they were found. Then Riva tries to survive with her 3 younger brothers (Motele, Laibele, and Moishele.) She also has 3 older siblings (Mala, Chana, and Yankele.) But her older siblings went to Russia so they will be safe there. While she is trying to take care of her brothers she runs into problems! She gets sick and so does her brother! Unfortunately, her brother dies! That caused a BIG change in her life! She then moved out of the apartments and moved to a old shop. After that she decided it was too hard for her to survive so she decided to turn herself into a labor camp. She had a LOT more experience after that but she will never forget the words of her mother "If hope is lost, all is lost."
The two things I loved about this book is that there is a lot of adventure in it and that she solves all her problems independently!! This book is about a girl and her life! She struggles but survives!! She encourages me to do the same! Two things I did not like about the book is that it confused me at some parts and that it has vocabulary words that you need to know to understand the book. To really understand and like the book i can recommend it to boys and girls of age 12 and older. At some points it gets confusing so i will say it is reading level 8/10. If you are a person who loves to read about some difficult times people went through and how it affected the world then this is the book for you!!
