Catching Fire

Catching Fire by: Suzanne Collins is the second book of the Hunger Games series. This book starts at District 12 when Katniss is in her house in the Victor’s Village after she won the Hunger Games, a brutal T.V. show that Capitol citizens watch for pleasure. This show has tributes from each of the districts fight to the death. The tributes were children from ages 12-16. The next Hunger Games is a Quarter Quell where the president pulls a card out of a box. Anyway, President Snow decided to visit Katniss and he said that there have been rebellions. Later, Katniss and Peeta, the other victor, go on a train through the districts. Everyone thinks that Katniss and Peeta are lovers because of something that happened in the Hunger Games. There Peeta finds out that there tutor, Haymitch favored Katniss over him. So, they all made a deal to protect Peeta next time. They said this because just earlier Katniss heard that the Quarter Quell was going to have tributes from previous Hunger Games. So Katniss was called, being the only living girl victor in District 12, then Haymitch was called but Peeta volunteered to take his place. During training, Katniss formed alliances with elderly Mags, Nuts and Volts as they are called, Finnick, and Johanna. The rest of the book is for you to read.

I like this book for a couple reasons. One reason is that I think this book adds onto the first book and makes you want to read the third book immediately. I also like the books sci-fi angle towards the end of the Earth. However, I don’t like this book because of the boring parts where a whole chapter is devoted to describing a stupid event.
