The Bar Code Tattoo

This book that I read is called, The Bar Code Tattoo. It was written by Suzanne Weyn. It is about a girl fighting against society to stay pure and not get a government rigged tattoo. I chose this book because Mrs. Henry is reading it with her tenth grade class, and she said that it is really good.
Kayla is a junior in high school living in the year 2025. She is just a normal girl who just wants to fit in and follows all the trends. Then a new trend comes out, the bar code tatto. It has all your information inside of it. It has your credit card, drivers license, all your insurance and info that you might need in it. Everyone is getting it and it helps a lot with things. Most stores and places are starting to not use anything but bar code monitors. You can only get it when you turn 17 though. So when Kayla turns 17 everyone tries to talk her into getting it. However, something just doesn't seem right about the tattoo so she doesnt really want to get it. Then suddenly Kayla's dad starts to get really depressed and a tragic accident happens to him. Kayla's mom said it was all because of the bar code. It changed him. Also, things are going wrong with a lot of other people's bar codes. However, the government doesn't care so they make the tattoo a law. So Kayla's only choice is to join a resistence group and run away.
This book was really good. I like how much action is in it, mainly at the beggining. Also, I like how throughout the book it has some newspaper articles to help explain what has happened. I don't like though that the important parts seem kind of rushed. Also, I really don't like the ending, It gets kind of weird. However, the rest of the book is really good. This book is good for anyone around our age and a little older. Everyone would enjoy this book! =)
