Mockingjay by: Suzanne Collins

The book Mockingjay, written by Suzanne Collins, is narrated by the main character Katniss Everdeen. The main characters are Peeta Mellark, Katniss' fiance and the boy who loved her the first time he layed eyes on her, Prim Everdeen, Katniss' younger sister, President Snow, the president of Panem, Haymitch, the drunken mentor of Katniss and Peeta, President Coin, the president of district 13, and Gale Hawthorne, Katniss' best friend.

Mockingjay, the third and final book of The Hunger Games, centers around Katniss and the districts' rebellion against the Capitol. Katniss, now a refugee in District 13, demands the right to kill President Snow. Peeta and the others who were captured by the Capitol are rescued by a party including Gale, but Peeta's memories have been "hijacked" with the use of tracker jacker venom, which causes him to hate Katniss. He tries to kill Katniss, but is restrained. Finally, a group including Katniss, Gale, and a normalized Peeta go to the Capitol on a mission to assassinate President Snow. Before Katniss can reach him, her little sister Prim is killed in a bombing. President Snow later tells Katniss that President Coin, the president of District 13, was behind the bombing. She soon realizes that if this is true, the bombing may have been the result of a plan originally developed by her friend Gale. Katniss realizes that she will never be able to look at Gale the same way, regardless of whether he was directly involved in Prim's death. Katniss remembers a conversation with President Snow in which they promised not to lie to each other. When she is supposed to execute him, she realizes that he was telling the truth and kills President Coin instead. During President Snow's execution Katniss shoots President Coin, and later President Snow is also found dead, possibly from choking on his own blood. Katniss has a major breakdown, and tries to kill herself while in solitary confinement. Katniss, Peeta, and Haymitch return to District 12, and Katniss eventually begins to recover. More than fifteen years later Katniss speaks out about her life in the past. She is married to Peeta and they have two children. The Hunger Games are over, but she dreads the day her children learn the details of their parents' involvement in both the Games and the war. When she feels upset, Katniss has taken to reminding herself of every good thing that she has ever seen someone do. She finally has a happily ever after after all.

I chose to read this book because after reading The Hunger Games and Catching fire i couldn't not finish it, so i did! I liked how there were twist all throughout the book. Not one time did i want to put it down and I read it every night until i fell asleep. What i didn't like about Mockingjay was that Gale would actually turn against Katniss the way he did and the fact that they killed off Primrose. It was a complete and total shock for me and i litterly burst into tears even though i was in public. I'm really into these books. I'd recommend this book to anyone who is into love and tragedy. If you'd like to read Mockingjay read the books in order or you won't get what's going on and you'll be total lost. If you like the way this book sounds you should read The Hunger Games and Catching Fire too.
