A Child Called It

I read a book called A Child Called It. It was written by Dave Pelzer. He is actually writing about his own childhood. I chose to read this book because it seemed interesting and my friend recommended it to me. It is mainly about a little boy, trying to live through his terrible childhood, hoping one day life will get better for him.

Dave Pelzer was only a little boy. All he wanted was to be cared for and loved. He wanted to be treated as a person and not treated like a nobody. His mother would abuse him daily and come up with "little games" to hurt Dave even more. He had to do all the chores as his brothers played outside. He couldn't even eat with his family. He spent most of his time in the garage, which was more of his home than the actual house. David was living in a "hell house" he calls it but the thing is, he was too scared to do anything about it. His father left because he couldn't stand his wife and all of the problems in the house. David was eventually referred to as "It". All he wanted was to be loved but all he got was nothing. This book talks about his horrible childhood and his hope to someday get out of the house and be free.

Two things I liked about this book was how it wasn't boring and it constantly had you wanting to keep reading. I didn't dislike anything about it. It's a sad book but it has a good story behind it. I would recommend this book to all of my friends. It has a good lesson about child abuse, and how it affects kids lives in a terrible way, and how it should stop. I'm happy I chose to read this book.
