The Chronicles Of Vladimir Tod: Eighth Grade Bites

I read the book The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod: Eighth Grade Bites by Heather Brewer. I felt the book was a good read and am going to complete the series. In this book, Vladimir (Vlad for short), is a regular fourteen year old in eighth grade dealing with the normal drama and some hidden secrets.
We all know what middle school is like, bullies, crushes, friends, best friends, and… being a vampire? For Vladimir Tod, that’s the norm. Vlad is an orphaned fourteen year old boy, who lives with his god-mom, that has a hidden secret, he’s half vampire. His father was a full vampire who escaped from Elisha, the vampire community, to be with Vlad’s mortal mother, which was against the Elishan prophecy. In Eighth Grade Bites, Vladimir discovers he isn’t the only vampire left.
His uncle Otis becomes the substitute for the Bathory Middle School English teacher when he goes missing. “My name is Mr. Otis Otis,” he introduced himself to the class. It’s true, his first name and last name are Otis. Otis becomes a very important character in the story. He takes Vlad to Elisha and saves him from the vampire leader who wanted to kill him for his father’s crime of marring a mortal.
Just because Vlad has the secret, doesn’t mean that no one knows, his best friend Steve, who is also his “vampire slave”, knows about it. He doesn’t seem to mind. Although, when they were six, Vladimir bit Steve. But, Steve has still stood by him through everything. True friends!
Meredith is Vlad’s crush. He feels as if he fell in love with her the first time he saw her. She doesn’t know Vlad’s secret, but she can tell he likes her. Secret enough? Meredith doesn’t have a big role in this book besides causing jealousy between the boys.
I would recommend this book to any student looking for a quick read as long as they don’t mind a little blood, gore, and vampires with it.
