The Wedding

The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks is about a middle aged man who feels that his marriage with his wife doesn't have to spark like it used to back then. When his daughter announces that she is getting married, he tries to rekindle the romance with his wife and him. I'm a big fan of Nicholas Sparks' books, so after I read the books that have already been turned into movies, I decided to give the non-movie books a shot!

In the novel, Wilson Lewis fears that his marriage with his wife, Jane, might be on the rocks when she decides to visit their son, Joseph, in California alone. He asks the help of his father-in-law, 80-year-old Noah Calhoun (from The Notebook, another Nicholas Sparks book) for advice on how to rekindle their relationship as well as sharing stories about his relationship with Allie. All of a sudden, when Wilson's oldest daughter, Anna, wants to get married in a week, being that it was her parents' thirtieth wedding anniversary and Noah's health was declining. Wilson sees this as an opportunity to both help out Anna and her fiance, Keith, with their wedding at the same time rekindle the spark with his and Jane's marriage.

One of the things I liked about this book is that it's a connection to The Notebook, and it gives the readers an opportunity to see the relationship between Noah and his children and grandchildren. Another thing I liked about it is that there wasn't anything military related about the book, minus the fact that Noah was in the military in The Notebook. However, I didn't like that I couldn't relate to it. Of course, it was about a middle aged married couple, so I couldn't relate to it as much as I wanted to. One of the other things I didn't like about it so much is that the book seemed to drag on in some parts and rush in others. It made it pretty confusing for me. Other than that, once you get past all of the confusing parts, it's actually pretty good! Although, I recommend it to anyone who can relate to marital problems.
