The Lovely Bones By:Alice Sebold

This spoils the book so dont read if you havent read the book !

The narrator of this story is a fourteen year old girl named Susie Salmon. Susie is a normal fourteen year-old girl. Ond day on her way home from school she was stopped by a man. This mans name was Mr.Harvey(George Harvey). Mr.Harvey wanted to show her something in the cornfield. So Susie went, thinking she could trust him because he was her neighbor and he knew her parents. Soon did she find out Mr. Harvey did not want to she her anything but he kidnaped her and shortly after raped and killed her. Of course when Susie dies she is brought to heaven. In heaven she meets Franny, her guide in the heavens. In heaven it can be whatever Susie wants. So susie chooses to create her heaven in the image of her hometown highschool. However the only thing Susie honestly wants is to be back on earth with her family and friends. Sadly that is the one thing Susie can not have. But Susie can watch down on her family from heaven and watch as they struggly with there loss and the murder.

Forever the Salmon family will be changed as a result of Susies death. Susie watches her family and friends as they grow up, and her parents as they slowly grow apart. Susies mother wants to forget about her feelings, while Susies father is unsatified with the investigators and decides to begin his own investigation for his daughters murder. As her dad researchs all of his investigation his clues lead him to Mr. Harvey. However, the police can not arrest him because there is no proof he murdered Susie.

Through the experiences of the Salmon family in the lovely bones you can compare your feelings with the feelings of the people in the book. Can something good come from a horrible tragety? Can healing come from a place of violence and despair?
