Water for Elephants

The book I read was Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. This book falls under the historical fiction genre category. I chose this book because I had seen the movie and really loved it. I loved the romance throughout the movie story line and the animals.

In the book Jacob Jankowski's parents die in an automobile accident, he is then determined to find some where for him to go and live his life as he is devastated from the terrible tragedy. Jacob then decides to jump on a moving train to take him to a new destination. Jacob soon finds out that he jumped on a moving circus train. Once the train stops at the next circus, he ends up working with the circus and taking care of the circus animals. He soon falls in love with one of the girls who is in the circus and the story escalates from there.

Two things I liked about this book were the romance between the two main characters and how Marlena really loved her elephant. Marlena would do anything for her elephants and loves showing her in the circuses. One thing I disliked about the book was how one of the guys was really cruel to the elephant and would beat it with metal poles. I would recommend this book to anyone eighth grade and up just because it has some big words in it. Also it gets really detailed with the making out and some of the circus acts. I would recommend this book to a friend because I liked it so much. Anyone who loves animals and romance would really like this book.
