The Barcode Tattoo Suzanne Weyn

Recently I read a book called The Bar code Tattoo by Suzanne Weyn. It was a great book and I could not put it down it was so good.
The book is about a dystpoian society where at the age of 17 everyone is to get a tattoo in the form of a bar code on their wrist. The tattoo is used to identify everyone in the continent. In most continents it is required but in a few continents it is not illegall to not have them.
In the begining her father had commited suicide trying to get the tattoo off her body. Kaylas mom kept saying to her that it was the bar code the killed her father. So on her seventeenth brithday her friend Amber tried to take her to the place where they all get their tattoos, but Kayla had a bad feeling so she bolted. Just as she tried to go she heard a gun shot.
It turned out someone tried to ruin the machine that puts the tattoo their bodies. If she were any closer to the window she would have been dead. The next day at school some kids come up to Amber and Kayla and try to get them to sign a petition to make it so you do not have to have the bar code tattoo. Kayla signs and goes to their meetings.
Later in the story she finds out that the man she loves and the leader of the group was all for the tattoo. She thought that he was just using her so she would get the tattoo. Kayla runs home and her mom shares some vital information with her while she is sober. She works in the hospital and tell her they do a scan and kill off the babies which will not be strong. She also tells her that instead of tatooing them the put a chip in their foot.
They then get into a fight and Kaylas mom tries to burn the tattoo off and ends up setting the house on fire. They both pass out. Kayla wakes up in the hospital. She asks where her mom is and they tell her she is dead. They give her heavy sedation medicine and because she starts to freak out when they say they are going to tattoo her and from the shock that her mom is dead. She wakes up and she has no tattoo and she runs. She takes random clothing and runs to the woods. She then is wanted for homocide because part of the group lies and tells the reporters she killed her mom on purpose.
Then her her world was destroyed while running through the woods she meets the leader of the group. She got away and then makes her way to a woman named Eutonah with help from lots people. She then learns how to cope and communicate with her mind.
Two things I like about this book is how in depth it was and what I think is going to happen in the future. Also I like how it is not sugar coated. Two things I did not like was
it can be hard to understand. Also how i had to go back and read a few passages a few times. This book can be startling to children so I reccomend ages 10+ male or female should read it. The reading level would be 7/10. I would reccomend to this for anyone who loves books about dystopian scocieties.
