Recently I read a book called Crank by Ellen Hopkins. It is mainly about a girl named Kristina that becomes addicted to crystal meth after visiting her dad in California. She met a guy who encouraged her to take a walk on the wild side by trying meth, which she refers to as " the monster".
After she goes back home she makes an alter ego for herself. This alter ego is ,much more courageous than herself in real life. Her alter egos name is Bree. She continues to do crystal meth without her mother knowing it. She then gets asked out by a guy her mother approves of. His name is Brendan. At the same time she finds another guy who she falls head over heals for.
At one time in the story she runs low on meth and goes to Brendans house and talks to his sister who is also addicted. Over time they develop a friendship but that is all soon ruined. Soon after she is raped by Brendan. She then finds out that she is pregnant. The boy her mother does not approve of sticks with her throught the whole ordeal even though it is not his baby. She then cuts down on her addiction to meth.
Two things I likeds about this book is that is very real. She did not hold anything back about what happened. I also like that it was very graphic. You feel like you are right there when all the drama is happening. Two things I disliked about this book was that it was written like a poem and was hard to get used to reading. I also disliked that the cover did not pull me in and want to make me want to read it. The only reason i got it was because i knew what n it was about. I think that the maturity of the reader should be high. The level would be 9/10. If you are a person that likes the struggles of teens everyday lives and drama i would recommend you read this book. :)
