Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson

I read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It was 198 pages long. It was a quick read so if you are looking for a quick read, read this book. I would recommend this book to anybody who reads because anybody could relate to the book. I would rate this book as a 9.

Speak is about a girl named Melina Sordino. She just started freshman year without any friends from the year before because she called the cops at a big high school party. Melinda had a reason for calling the cops but you don't find out till the end. Melina never speaks to anyone but people she trusts. Melinda makes a friend by meeting Heather from Ohio. But Heather gets caught up with trying to be popular, she tells Melinda that she is weird and she doesn't want to be friends anymore. so Melinda is back to square one, she finds a old, abandoned janitors closet and hangs out in there. She skips classes and one day she slept late, and didn't go to school at all. But then the principal and other staff members notice Melinda's absents, grades and she not speaking doesn't help her. So for the third marking period she goes to class everyday. Then, she talks to her ex-best friend Rachael, to ask her if the rumors are true about her dating Andy Evans,a senior, Rachael is nice to Melinda and ask why she called the cops at the party. Melinda replied she was raped and then she puased and said by Andy Evans, but Rachael doesn't believe her and stroms off. Andy takes Rachael to the prom but Rachael finds out that he is a pig and dumps him. Everyone in school is calling him names. At the end of the year Melinda is cleaning out the closet and Andy locks the door and starts beating her up. Melinda fights back and tells principal and now everyone thinks she is amazing for standing up to Andy.
